There Is Something About That Mountain

And when you climb that mountain,
you feel your legs hurting,
your back aching,
your baggage pulling you down.

But then you take a deep breath in,
you gather all your strength and start walking.
Suddenly you don't feel the pain anymore,
you're driven by the view which is waiting for you at the top of that steep mountain.

And then you start running.
Up that hill.
And somehow you even forget to hold on,
seeing the path you're following.

Running,
chasing,
your body aching,
your heart pumping,
sweat running down,
adrenaline rushing through your veins,
your breath heavy,
your lungs gasping for air.

You can't stop.
Driven.
Just a bit further.
Just a bit faster.
Then you will finally be there…

And then..
you stumble…
you fall…
darkness around you from chasing the light…

You can't go any further.
You try,
try to pull yourself up,
you struggle,
you fall again.
Hopelessness.
The darkness doesn't leave.

But then
a blink of light,
a hand reaching out to you.
Another wanderer,
walking the same path.
Pulling you up.

Relief;
someone is there,
helping you stand.
Slowly.

But something has changed…
you are starting to see the path again.
Quietness.

You start to notice the trees around you covered in snow,
the rocks forming sculptures,
the chamois rushing by,
the sun shining through the clouds.

And now you are sharing the long, rocky path
You go step by step
— together.

Carefully,
thoughtfully.
You often stop,
take a moment,
take in the beauty around you.

Suddenly the path is not so steep anymore.
And step by step,
you haven't even noticed,
you have reached the top.

And it is more beautiful
than you have ever imagined.
But not only because of the view.

Because somewhere along the way,
you stopped chasing the summit.
